Re‐examining Temporal Variations in Intermediate‐Depth Seismicity

چکیده

Changes in the frequency of intermediate-depth (60–300 km) earthquakes response to static stress transfer can provide insights into mechanisms earthquake generation within subducting slabs. In this study, we use most up-to-date global and regional catalogues show that both aftershock productivity large earthquakes, changes around timing major megathrust slip, support view faults slab are relatively insensitive on order drops. We interpret these results suggest population much further from their failure than is typical for shallow fault systems. also find varies slabs over small spatial scales, indicating mechanism enables rupture at intermediate depths likely be spatially heterogeneous length-scales a few tens kilometres. dehydration-related weakening best account heterogeneity.

Decomposing spatio-temporal seismicity patterns

Seismicity is a distributed process of great spatial and temporal variability and complexity. Efforts to characterise and describe the evolution of seismicity patterns have a long history. Today, the detection of changes in the spatial distribution of seismicity is still regarded as one of the most important approaches in monitoring and understanding seismicity. The problem of how to best descr...

Spatio-temporal evolution of volcano seismicity: laboratory simulations

The measurement and analysis of seismicity in active volcanic areas is the main tool used in volcanic hazard mitigation. However, seismic monitoring technologies have met with only mixed success in forecasting eruptive episodes. This arises because, although our understanding of the spatio-temporal processes generating the observed seismic signals has increased substantially with the wide scale...

Measuring Temporal Variations in Presence

• In the current study we have applied the concept of presence to 3DTV research. More specifically, we took this concept to reflect the increased perceptual linkage between the observer and the mediated environment, supporting an illusion of non-mediation. We applied the continuous assessment methodology to reveal time-variant properties of presence, which were hitherto largely ignored, and to ...

Temporal Variations in Fibril Orientation

We measure variations in orientation of fourteen dynamic fibrils as a function of time in a small isolated plage and nearby network using a 10-min time sequence of Hα filtergrams obtained by the Dutch Open Telescope. We found motions with average angular velocities of the order of 1 deg min −1 suggesting systematic turning from one limit position to another, particularly apparent in the case of...

Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Variations in Water Quality Dynamics of River Ganga in Varanasi

River Ganga is one of the prime sacred National Rivers of India, closely associated with economic, social, and cultural heritage of Indian people. Recently, it has been subjected to immense degradation and pollution as a result of receiving huge amounts of domestic and industrial wastewater as well as religious ritual activities and surface runoff. The present study attempts to study spatial an...
